Women’s Health Physiotherapy
What is Women’s Health Physiotherapy?
Women’s Health Physiotherapy is the therapeutic non-surgical treatment of all disorders affecting the pelvis and pelvic floor muscles. Recent evidence and government guidelines recommend physiotherapy treatment for pelvic floor conditions such as incontinence, constipation, prolapse and pelvic pain. Approximately one in three women will experience urinary incontinence at some point in their life and this figure can drastically increase to 50% for those who participate in physical exercise. Although incontinence can be a very common problem it is not normal, and physiotherapy can be a very beneficial treatment, however it is still a very taboo subject that often women are too embarrassed to discuss the symptoms therefore it remains untreated and just becomes the norm to them, and they then develop coping strategies like drinking less water or going to the toilet more often.
Conditions Treated by Women’s Health Physiotherapy:
- Low back and abdominal pain
- Bladder or bowel incontinence
- Prolapse
- Pelvic girdle pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Coccyx pain
- Weak pelvic floor muscles
- Separation of abdominal muscles post pregnancy
- Sexual discomfort or loss of sensation
