Women’s Health
What is Women’s Health Physiotherapy?
Women’s Health Physiotherapy is a specialist area of physiotherapy which focuses on women’s physical health and fitness at various stages of life. You do not need to have had a baby to benefit from women’s health physiotherapy.
Can women’s health physiotherapy help me?
- Women experiencing incontinence, urine leakage or urine urgency
- Pelvic pain
- Bulging/pressure/heaviness/prolapse to pelvic area
- Have a known prolapse
- Pelvic floor dysfunction/pain
- Pre and post-partum, with a focus on preparing for birth or returning to usual routine/sport
What to expect from a women’s health consultation?
While an internal examination can offer information on the strength, tone, and function of the pelvic floor muscles, if this is something you are not comfortable with, an appointment can still be valuable without one.
If this is something you are happy with, this will always be carried out in a safe, private environment by a trained female physiotherapist. We welcome bringing a chaperone along with you also, if this can help put you at ease.
External muscles and joints will also be assessed, alongside a comprehensive consultation to provide you with various techniques, strategies, and tailored exercises to suit you.
Important notes
You are in control and can stop at any time you are not comfortable. Everything will be explained in a clear manner and will only proceed with your consent. You can stop the examination at any time and questions/queries are welcomed.
